Teamsters Look at Rail Safety Solutions
Teamsters are holding a conference in Las Vegas beginning tomorrow to look at Rail Safety Solutions. General President Jim Hoffa says rail companies on both sides of the border are raking in record profits but have delayed necessary repairs.
Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Maintenance of Way President William Brehl says the safety issue has two faces. On the one hand, they have to make railways safe for their members and on the other hand, they are responsible for the safety of Canadians who travel by rail or live near the tracks. He says there's 'no duct tape' solution to the issues but one sure thing is the solution is going to take real commitment from all parties. His organization represents more than 4000 maintenance-of-way workers at CPR and almost two dozen short-line railroads.
