John Humphries may also be the same musical referent as J.S. Humphries. If they were not one in the same it will be difficult to separate the music attributed to one or the other as the similarities in the music were so pronounced. John Humpries was a violinist who composed a number of instrumental works for that instrument including sonatas (12 at least) and two different collections of 12 concertos. The instrumentation included combinations of the violin with bass cello as well as strings, wind and tympani. Keyboard pieces are also attributed to John Humphries. Characteristics of the music included enrgized rhythms, short phrases, syncopation, a repitition of notes and some fugal writing. ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
